Wood and painted foam sculpture encased in glass. Signed, numbered and titled, underneath base. Edition of 99 - (with written certification hand-signed by the artist’s wife, model and muse, Juliette Man Ray) // Le Tour by Man Ray, created in 1981, is a minimalist and elegant sculpture combining wood and painted foam, encased in a glass dome. This piece features a geometric, tiered structure that resembles an abstracted tower or spiral, emphasizing verticality and form. The contrasting textures of the materials—smooth wood and matte black foam—are accentuated by the clear glass, creating a contained, almost scientific display. Part of a limited edition of 99, this work carries a sense of mystery and refinement, typical of Man Ray's avant-garde style, blending modernist abstraction with surrealist undertones.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
