// Stone by Liliana Porter is a limited edition lithograph from 2010, produced in an edition of 50. The artwork centers on a small figurine, seemingly frozen mid-gesture, standing on a vast, blank background. The figure appears to hold a pose of either strength or struggle, adding an element of curiosity and introspection. Its minimal shadow grounds it within the space, yet the expansive emptiness around the figure emphasizes its isolation and solitary presence. Porter's use of minimalism directs focus entirely on the figure’s posture, inviting interpretations related to perseverance, endurance, and the resilience of the individual in an indifferent void.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
