Photolithograph on Sennelier Bristol D8 - Signed and numbered to lower edge of one work in pencil // Six Rooms by John Baldessari, created in 1993, is a series of six photolithographs on Sennelier Bristol D8 paper. Each panel presents a grid-like arrangement of small black-and-white photographs, paired with handwritten text, in Baldessari’s characteristic conceptual art style. The images depict various scenes, objects, and figures that evoke a fragmented narrative, allowing the viewer to piece together different interpretations of the visuals. The contrast between the stark, minimal composition and the detailed photographic content encourages viewers to explore themes of perception, meaning, and context in visual art. The photolithographs are signed and numbered in pencil on the lower edge of one work, and the edition is limited to 150.

What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style in music and visual arts characterized by pared-down designs and simplicity. It began in Western art after World War II, gaining prominence particularly in American visual arts. Minimalism draws heavily on aspects of modernism and is often viewed as a reaction against Abstract Expressionism, as well as a precursor to post-minimal art practices. Prominent minimalist artists include Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella, and Dan Flavin.
