Gabriele De Santis's Manifesto 2017, lithograph, yellow background with red artists' names in column and aligned abstract symbols.

// Manifesto 2017 by Gabriele De Santis, a lithograph from 2017, features a bold yellow background with a list of artists' names in red capital letters arranged in a column on the left side. To the right of each name, various symbols—ranging from squares to lines and circles—are aligned, creating a coded or symbolic system that invites interpretation. This arrangement evokes the style of a modernist poster, combining elements of typography and minimalism. The work could be seen as a tribute or commentary on contemporary art and the collective identity of artists. De Santis's use of symbols rather than images emphasizes the abstraction and conceptual nature of the piece.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
