Acrylic and metal sculpture with moving colored circles – each edition piece is UNIQUE, with different color combinations. Signed in marker at the bottom. Subtractive Variability Kosmos Axis 2 (2025) by Felipe Pantone is a kinetic wall sculpture made of acrylic and metal, measuring 35 × 35 × 7 cm. Each edition is unique, with three translucent colored methacrylate discs arranged around an off-center axis. The discs rotate freely, creating shifting color combinations through overlapping movement. With a single manual spin, the sculpture remains in motion for over 10 minutes, reflecting Pantone’s signature interest in motion, light, and optical variability. This limited-edition piece invites the viewer to activate the work, making color a constantly evolving experience.

What is Hard Edge Art?

Hard Edge art is a style of abstract painting that became popular in the 1960s. It features areas of color separated by crisp, sharp edges that are painted with geometric precision. The term hard-edge painting was coined by art critic Jules Langsner to describe this approach, which contrasts with the softer, more fluid forms of other abstract styles.
