Felipe Pantone Substractive Variability Series 2 – Print 4 lithograph central gradient burst with angular color overlays

Substractive Variability Series 2 – Print 4 by Felipe Pantone is a limited-edition lithograph measuring 27.6 × 27.6 in (70 × 70 cm). The composition radiates from a central point, blending a full spectrum of hues—deep blues, emerald greens, vivid oranges, and magentas—into a seamless gradient. Around the edges, angular overlays of saturated color create a sense of layered transparency, as if light is refracted through a crystalline prism. The work captures Pantone’s signature fusion of optical art, digital aesthetics, and traditional printmaking, evoking both movement and dimensionality within a flat surface.

What is kinetic art?

Kinetic art is an international movement that emerged in the 1920s and gained prominence in the 1960s, referring to art that involves both apparent and real motion. It encompasses any medium that includes movement, either relying on actual motion for its effect or being perceived as moving by the viewer. Early examples include canvas paintings designed to create optical illusions of movement. Today, kinetic art often refers to three-dimensional figures and sculptures, such as those operated by machines or those that move naturally. The movement covers a variety of styles and techniques that frequently overlap.
