Plaster and crushed glass - Unsigned, Labelled on the accompanying box // Future Relic 07 - Cassette Player by Daniel Arsham, created in 2017, is a mixed media sculpture made from plaster and crushed glass. The piece depicts a partially eroded cassette player, transforming a once-familiar object into an archaeological relic. The textured surface and fragmented appearance give it an ancient, fossil-like quality, suggesting the passage of time and the obsolescence of technology. Arsham’s work blurs the line between contemporary artifacts and historical ruins, evoking themes of memory, nostalgia, and the ephemeral nature of modern objects. This sculpture, part of a limited edition of 500, remains unsigned but is labeled on its accompanying box.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
