Future Relic 05 - Telephone

Daniel Arsham’s Eroded DeLorean (White), 2021 resin, plaster, and aluminum oxide sculpture of a DeLorean with eroded details and open gull-wing doors.

Resin, Plaster and Aluminium Oxide - Unsigned // Daniel Arsham’s Eroded DeLorean (White) (2021) is a mixed media sculpture that reimagines the iconic DeLorean, a car made famous by its appearance in the Back to the Future film series. Crafted from resin, plaster, and aluminum oxide, the car is depicted in a state of erosion, with portions of its sleek frame worn and decayed, as if discovered in a future archaeological dig. The gull-wing doors are open, adding to the dynamic and futuristic feel of the piece. Arsham’s signature technique of transforming familiar objects into relics of the future invites contemplation on the passage of time, memory, and the fleeting nature of cultural icons. This limited edition work combines nostalgia with a sense of decay, capturing the ephemeral nature of technology and innovation.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
