Triptico de Amsterdam 2 by Antonio Saura is a 1975 serigraph composed of several expressive drawings arranged within a single composition. Executed with rapid, gestural lines and minimal color accents, the figures appear distorted and schematic, oscillating between human forms and symbolic shapes. Saura reduces bodies and faces to energetic strokes, creating characters that feel both playful and unsettling. The arrangement of separate panels introduces a sense of visual dialogue, as each drawing explores a variation of the human figure through abstraction and exaggeration. Known for his intense graphic language and association with the Spanish postwar avant-garde and the El Paso group, Saura often used deformation to convey psychological tension. Printed in an edition of 190 with additional artist and hors commerce impressions, the work reflects the spontaneity and expressive force of his drawing practice.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
