Resin, wood and plastic sculpture. Not signed. Mini Mori Girl (2012) by Yoshitomo Nara is a small-scale resin, wood, and plastic sculpture that encapsulates the artist’s whimsical and melancholic charm. Encased in a clear dome atop a wooden base, the figure features a tree-headed girl with wide, expressive eyes and a subtle, enigmatic smile. Measuring just 11.5 cm tall, the piece blends innocence with a surreal twist, characteristic of Nara’s childlike yet emotionally charged characters. The sculpture’s title, referencing "Mori Girl" (a Japanese subculture that romanticizes forest life), deepens its connection to nature and nostalgia, while its toy-like scale adds a touch of intimacy and tenderness.

What is Superflat?
Superflat is an art movement founded by Takashi Murakami, heavily influenced by anime and manga. The term Superflat refers to the flattened forms found in Japanese animation, graphic art, fine arts, and pop culture, as well as the perceived superficiality of Japanese culture. Murakami's movement, which he self-proclaimed, is considered postmodern and critiques both the depth and shallowness of contemporary Japanese society. Superflat has been highly influential in bridging the gap between high art and popular culture.
