Tara Donovan studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, at Corcoran College of Art and Design, and at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is widely characterized as going against the flow of the art community with all of her work, and so she has earned quite a name for herself. In Tara Donovan's work, the generative style of art is truly embodied. Her works are sculptures made from processed materials that are often everyday items. Her sculptures are known for being incredibly intricate, and often have naturally occurring patterns throughout. Tara has a tendency to decide what her sculpture will look like as she is creating it, which adds to the natural, generative style that her works so readily showcase. She designs her works on-site, so it can often take a great deal of tedious work to perfect a new project. She has also dabbled in drawing, and has exhibited large-scale drawings that she has completed. Tara Donovan's sculptures, however, remain her most well-known medium of art, and they truly showcase her innovation.
