Peter Halley Cartoon Views etching with colorful abstract panels in grid layout, resembling comic strips with vibrant shapes and patterns.

// Cartoon Views by Peter Halley, created in 2020, is a limited-edition etching that plays with the aesthetics of comic strips and digital interfaces. This work features a grid of colorful, abstract panels, each filled with simplified shapes, patterns, and lines in vibrant colors like pink, green, orange, blue, and purple. Each panel is distinct yet unified by Halley’s characteristic style, suggesting fragments of imagined landscapes, explosions, and textured surfaces. The arrangement evokes the structured layout of a comic strip, yet the content remains abstract and open to interpretation. This piece reflects Halley’s ongoing exploration of modern visual language and spatial structures, creating a playful dialogue between art and digital culture.

What is Neo-Geo?

Known as Neo-Geo for short, this movement uses geometric objects and shapes to create abstract artwork as a metaphor for society. Inspired by various 20th-century art styles, including minimalism and pop art, Neo-Geo emerged in the 1980s as a response to the industrialization and commercialization of the modern world. The movement reflects on the impact of mass production, consumerism, and technology, often critiquing the superficiality of contemporary culture through its abstract, geometric compositions.
