Etching and collage // Manolo Valdés's Jarron con 2 Asas (1993) is a limited edition print combining etching and collage, showcasing Valdés’s signature approach of merging classical art elements with modern techniques. The piece features a large vase with two prominent handles, its surface decorated with abstract patterns in dark blue and beige tones. Behind the vase, two botanical illustrations of flowers are placed, creating an interesting juxtaposition of natural elements and man-made objects. The use of collage adds texture and depth, making the flowers appear as though they are resting behind the vase or emerging from it. The dark background further emphasizes the contrast between the ornate vase and the delicate floral imagery, creating a dramatic and visually engaging composition. This print, produced in a limited edition of 55, reflects Valdés’s continued exploration of art history and his ability to reinvent traditional forms with a contemporary twist.

What is site specific art?
Site-Specific Art is a form of artwork created to exist in a particular location, with the artist considering the site as an integral part of the creative process. Robert Irwin was a key figure in promoting this art form in California. Site-Specific Art emerged as a reaction against modernist objects, which were often portable, commodified, and confined to museum spaces. In contrast, Site-Specific Art is inherently tied to its location, challenging the traditional notions of art as a transportable and marketable commodity.
