Hands and Eggs, 1966 - Edition of 125 - Gemini MR66-1194 Gemini GEL's twentieth print // This untitled lithograph by Man Ray, created in 1966 and part of a limited edition of 125, embodies the artist's surreal and experimental approach to art. Titled Hands and Eggs, the piece features ghostly imprints of two hands, with two egg-like ovals and a square shape positioned above, creating a mysterious, almost ritualistic composition. The stark contrasts between black and white add depth and emphasize the enigmatic elements. Man Ray’s work often blurred the line between photography, printmaking, and surrealism, and here, he presents a surreal arrangement that invites viewers to ponder themes of creation, identity, and abstraction. This print was produced by Gemini G.E.L. as part of their early collaborations with influential artists.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
