Color lithograph on paper. Signed in pencil on the lower right. Published by XX Siècle, Paris. Literature: 'Man Ray. Opera grafica', curated by L. Anselmino and B. Pilat, Luciano Anselmino Publ, Turin, IT, Vol. II, pag. 76 rep. 112. // This color lithograph by Man Ray presents La Montagna di Cristallo, a towering crystalline mountain rendered in precise black ink line work against a vivid turquoise sky. The jagged geometric rock formations rise vertically in a fantastical architectural structure that recalls both Surrealist dreamscapes and Renaissance drawings of impossible citadels. Published by XX Siècle in Paris and referenced in Anselmino's catalogue of Man Ray's graphic work, this signed impression demonstrates the artist's enduring fascination with the intersection of natural and constructed forms.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
