Screenprint // 1988 by Kenny Scharf is a vibrant and surreal screen-print that combines elements of fantasy and urban environments with bold, fluid forms. The artwork features a backdrop of black and yellow dripping lines that resemble acid rain, creating a dynamic and somewhat dystopian atmosphere. In the foreground, surreal, twisting red and blue shapes interact with abstracted architectural structures, including skyscrapers and geometric buildings. A large palm tree-like structure anchors the composition, and floating orbs add to the otherworldly feel. Scharf's playful yet thought-provoking use of color and form creates a dreamlike world where natural elements and futuristic symbols coexist in a strange harmony, reflecting themes of environmental concern and urbanization.

What is East Village Art?
In 1981, Patti Astor opened the first art gallery in New York City's East Village, helping to launch the careers of various artists and musicians. The gallery started small but quickly gained popularity, contributing to the emergence of art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art in the area. The East Village became a hub for these new artistic expressions. However, the gallery closed in 1985 due to waning interest.
