Color Silkscreen with enamel inks, flocking, and tar-like texture on Rising 2-ply museum board - Initialed, titled, dated on left margin and numbered lower right in pencil // Yellow Poppies, Sept 7, 2022 by Donald Sultan is a vibrant limited edition silkscreen print that highlights his bold use of color and abstraction. The print features large, abstract poppy forms in a rich yellow hue, with deep black centers contrasting against the warm, solid background. Sultan employs enamel inks, flocking, and a tar-like texture on a two-ply museum board, adding depth and tactile elements to the composition. The bright yellow tones create a sense of warmth and energy, while the simplified shapes and strategic use of negative space emphasize the floral forms in an almost graphic style. This piece, signed and numbered in pencil, is an expressive exploration of nature through a contemporary lens.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
