Lithograph on Paper; signed, numbered // Two Part Invention by Allen Jones is a playful and abstract lithograph from 2012, featuring vibrant colors and expressive forms that highlight Jones's signature exploration of human figures and surrealism. This limited edition print contrasts two mirrored figures: one in warm yellows and greens, the other in rich reds and blues. Each figure has an exaggerated, faceless head represented by a solid square, adding an element of abstraction. The figures seem to merge into their background, suggesting movement and spontaneity. The juxtaposition of bright and earthy tones creates a dynamic composition that evokes a sense of duality and balance. Jones’s work often flirts with abstraction while maintaining recognizable human forms, making Two Part Invention both engaging and enigmatic. This lithograph is hand-signed and numbered, part of an edition of 40.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
