David Hockney

Regarded as one of the most influential artists of his time, David Hockney was a multi-faceted artist whose work spanned painting, photography, and printmaking. His practice was known for combining elements of Pop Art photography, and everyday realism, with a particular sensitivity to light and perception.

A Bigger Splash was among Hockney’s most celebrated works. The painting depicts a cloudless Californian day, its tranquility interrupted by the splash of water in a swimming pool. Hockney remarked that he particularly enjoyed spending two weeks painting a moment that, in reality, lasted only a few seconds.

Beyond painting, Hockney also gained acclaim for his photographic collages, often referred to as “joiners.” In these works, he assembled multiple photographs of a single subject to create a new composite image that challenged conventional perspective.
