Bedroom Blonde Doodle with Photo is a large-format screenprint by Tom Wesselmann from 1988, printed in colours on Museum Board. In striking contrast to his opaque flat-colour nudes, this work renders a reclining blonde figure entirely through loose, flowing contour lines on a white ground enclosed by a grey border. Amber and orange strokes trace the body and cascading hair, while red lines suggest lips and floral forms at the lower left. Blue arcs evoke a pillow, green zigzags hint at foliage, and brown verticals outline a headboard.

Tom Wesselmann (USA, 1931–2004) was a leading Pop artist celebrated for his bold, vibrant works exploring modern American culture. Known for his Great American Nude series, he used simplified forms and bright colors to depict consumer goods, interiors, and the human figure, blending sensuality with abstraction.

Working across collage, sculpture and painting, Tom Wesselmann was a prominent artist of the Pop Art movement whose works often stylised the female form as well as capturing elements of American life and consumer culture. Wesselmann initially began as an illustrator of comic strips and men’s magazines but received acclaim in the art world for his Great American Nude series in which he depicts numerous patriotic scenes - such as portraits of founding fathers or a photograph of a typically American landscape - using a palette of red white and blue with occasional khaki and gold; the majority of the images were sourced from discarded posters and magazines. Working with a number of materials, including Plexiglass, steel and aluminium, Wesselmann is diverse in his creative process and developed the first artistic use of laser-cut metal; Dropped Bra is an example of his acclaimed coloured, metal nudes.
