Transfer-printed glazed porcelain plaque in colours. Accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity, Signed, titled and numbered on an insert on the reverse. Published and fabricated by Rosenthal Limiterite Kunstreiben, Berlin (with their mark). Contained in the original wooden box. Tom Wesselmann’s Bedroom Blonde (1987) is a transfer-printed glazed porcelain plaque that reflects his iconic exploration of the female nude within a stylized, pop-art interior. The composition isolates fragments of the female body—often focusing on lips, hair, and reclining forms—rendered with crisp outlines and flat, vibrant colors. The glossy porcelain surface enhances the sensual clarity and commercial finish associated with Wesselmann’s work. Rooted in his Bedroom series, the piece merges intimacy with mass-media aesthetics, transforming private imagery into bold, graphic statements. Signed and issued in a limited edition, it exemplifies his late-career refinement of form and surface.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
