Paradise - portfolio of six works, 2004

Renowned for his work across a wide range of subject matter, Thomas Struth is a photographer whose portfolio includes Australian rainforests, inner city scenes and intimate portraits; his New Pictures from Paradise, eight separate large-format photographs, captures the natural beauty of the Daintree rainforest – Struth has described the series as his ‘most intuitive work’. Of his creative process, Struth has stated “when I am taking a photograph, I am conscious that I am constructing images rather than taking snapshots” - a concept exhibited in his most notable work, the Museum Photographs, an intimate and candid series that captured museum visitors as they admired works of art. Struth studied under Bernd and Hilla Bechr and the methodology he has used throughout his career was inspired by their documentarian approach, he also studied under Gerard Richter who encouraged his interests in painterly images. (Artist website)
