Red Grooms’ City of Chicago exhibition posters (1968) are lithographs that capture the artist’s playful and chaotic vision of urban life. Each print depicts a towering, cartoon-like structure filled with bustling figures, animals, and surreal details, with the Chicago skyline faintly visible in the background. The series combines humor and satire, transforming the city into a living stage of exaggerated characters and improbable scenes. Published for Grooms’ 1968 exhibition at Allan Frumkin Gallery in Chicago, these works highlight his signature blend of Pop Art and urban commentary, where architecture and humanity merge in a fantastical spectacle.

What is Performance Art?

Performance Art is a genre of fine art that is traditionally interdisciplinary, involving various art forms. It can be scripted or unscripted, random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous, or meticulously planned, with or without audience participation. Performance Art can be presented live or through media, with the artist either present or absent. It typically involves four basic elements: space, the performer’s body or presence through a medium, time, and the relationship between performer and audience. The artwork consists of actions performed by an individual or group in a specific time and space.
