Etchings in colours, on handmade Richard de Bas paper. Published by Edouard and Julien Weiss, Paris. Don Juan X by Manolo Valdés is a 2007 etching that depicts a stylized portrait of a figure with simplified facial features and a prominent silhouette. Rendered in bold, gestural strokes of black ink on textured paper, the piece reflects Valdés’ interest in historical imagery and reinterpretation of classical themes. The abstracted form, with heavy contrasts and expressive lines, evokes both strength and introspection. Part of an edition of 120, this work highlights Valdés’ distinctive approach to portraiture—merging figuration and abstraction in a way that invites reflection on identity and presence.

What is site specific art?
Site-Specific Art is a form of artwork created to exist in a particular location, with the artist considering the site as an integral part of the creative process. Robert Irwin was a key figure in promoting this art form in California. Site-Specific Art emerged as a reaction against modernist objects, which were often portable, commodified, and confined to museum spaces. In contrast, Site-Specific Art is inherently tied to its location, challenging the traditional notions of art as a transportable and marketable commodity.
