Set of 12 Jenny Holzer Truisms prints. Unsigned.

Screenprints on cherrywood.

'Truisms (set of 12)' by Jenny Holzer is a screen-print on twelve individual wood-veneered panels, each measuring 10 × 15 cm, arranged in a three-by-four grid. Each panel carries a single aphorism in block capitals — some in red, some in black — set against the warm grain of the wood. Phrases such as 'ABUSE OF POWER COMES AS NO SURPRISE' and 'WORDS TEND TO BE INADEQUATE' are drawn from Holzer's foundational 'Truisms' series, which she launched in 1977 by wheat-pasting hand-typed one-liners across lower Manhattan and Times Square. That guerrilla campaign was shaped by New York's atmosphere of economic crisis and social instability. This 2018 edition transposes those street-level statements onto an intimate domestic format, trading anonymity and scale for the deliberate collectibility of the art object.

What is Street art?

What is Street art?

Street Art is artwork created and executed in public spaces, outside of traditional art venues. It gained popularity during the 1980s graffiti art boom and has since evolved into various forms and styles. Common forms of Street Art include pop-up art, sticker art, stencil graffiti, and street installations or sculptures. Terms like guerrilla art, neo-graffiti, post-graffiti, and urban art are often used interchangeably to describe this genre, which challenges conventional ideas about where and how art should be displayed.
