LUV by Harland Miller, 2023, is a bold woodcut that transforms a simple three-letter word into a striking visual statement. Dominated by a large, overlapping “V” shape in electric red and pink against a purple background, the composition radiates warmth and intensity. The text “HARLAND MILLER” and “luv” at the bottom recalls the typography of mid-century book covers, a recurring theme in Miller’s work. Part of a limited edition of 50, the print fuses Pop Art color sensibilities with a playful nod to romance and nostalgia, inviting viewers to consider how typography and color can convey emotional resonance.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
