Gilbert & GEORGE | Good | Offset Print, 1986 — available on Composition Gallery

Offset lithograph on heavy wove paper. Not signed. // A cascading vertical cross of red roses pours down a brick wall, while four heads — Gilbert and George doubled and rotated, haloed with leaf-points — occupy the four corner cells. 'GOOD' is stamped at the lower right. The work belongs to a celebrated mid-1980s sequence in which the duo press their portraits into the ecstatic vocabulary of stained-glass icons. Offset lithograph on heavy wove paper. The print is one of the most lucid distillations of their religion of the self — a collectable piece to acquire for any post-war British print collection.

What is Performance Art?

Performance Art is a genre of fine art that is traditionally interdisciplinary, involving various art forms. It can be scripted or unscripted, random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous, or meticulously planned, with or without audience participation. Performance Art can be presented live or through media, with the artist either present or absent. It typically involves four basic elements: space, the performer’s body or presence through a medium, time, and the relationship between performer and audience. The artwork consists of actions performed by an individual or group in a specific time and space.
