Color lithograph on paper. Signed 'Francis Bacon'. Bibliography : Tacou14 / Sabatier17. Triptych (Centre) by Francis Bacon, produced in 1983, is a color lithograph that captures the raw intensity and psychological tension characteristic of Bacon’s oeuvre. Depicting contorted, intertwined figures rendered in pale tones, the composition is dramatically anchored on a stark red-orange background. The figures appear suspended in a void, casting a ghostlike shadow that accentuates their corporeal weight and emotional charge. Signed by the artist, this print is part of an edition of 180 and exemplifies Bacon’s exploration of human vulnerability, distortion, and existential isolation.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
