Diasec-mounted Giclée prints on aluminium composite panels. Each panel is numbered and labelled on the verso; Not signed. Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion by Francis Bacon is presented here as Diasec-mounted Giclée prints on aluminium panels, measuring 74 x 94 cm each, in an edition of 100 released in 2005. Originally painted in the 1940s, this harrowing triptych marked a turning point in post-war art. Set against stark orange backgrounds, Bacon's distorted, semi-human figures radiate anguish and psychological torment. Their contorted forms suggest both violence and vulnerability, reflecting existential dread in the aftermath of global conflict. This 2005 edition reaffirms the enduring relevance of Bacon’s unsettling vision of the human condition.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
