Unsigned, with publisher stamp, verso. - Offset lithograph on paper - From the General Dynamics FUN collection which was made in 1970. - From Colour Edition B and is limited to an edition of 70 // Untitled (Elephant and Real Estate) by Eduardo Paolozzi, created in 1970, is an offset lithograph from the General Dynamics FUN collection. This work, part of Color Edition B, is limited to a run of 70 prints and bears the publisher’s stamp on the verso. The composition is an intriguing blend of text and image, a hallmark of Paolozzi’s approach, which often combines surreal juxtapositions with commentary on modern life and technology. The image features an elephant seemingly interacting with a small car in front of a post office and a real estate office, printed on a pink background. The absurdity of the scene, with the enormous elephant looming over the car, creates a playful yet thought-provoking narrative. The accompanying text on the left side of the image adds to the layered complexity, offering viewers multiple entry points into understanding the work. Paolozzi’s interest in mass media, commercialism, and surrealism shines through in this playful exploration of scale and modern environments.

What is pop-art?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
