Engraving on Paper. The Shelling of Dubrovnik, 1993, August 2004 by Donald Sultan is a 2005 engraving that confronts the violent memory of war through abstraction and atmospheric intensity. The composition is dominated by dark, inky blacks and bruised reds, with bursts of fiery orange and cloud-like patches of electric blue. This brooding landscape evokes the trauma of the 1991–1992 siege of Dubrovnik during the Croatian War of Independence.
