I Love Pets by David Shrigley is a 2019 four-colour screenprint that distills affection and absurdity into a deceptively simple image. A large, hand-drawn red heart dominates the white surface, accompanied by the uneven text “I,” “PETS,” and the smaller, add-on phrases “AND THINGS” and “AND PEOPLE.” The casual lettering and childlike execution undercut the universal symbol of love, introducing Shrigley’s characteristic dry humor and ambiguity. The hierarchy of words playfully questions priorities and sincerity, turning a familiar declaration into a gently subversive statement. Printed on Somerset Tub Sized Satin White 410gsm paper, the work measures 76 × 60 cm, was produced in an edition of 125, and is signed, numbered, and dated on the reverse.
