Foil block print on 300gsm Arches 88 archival paper - Signed and numbered on the front // The Souls III - Chocolate/Oriental Gold/Burgundy by Damien Hirst is a limited edition foil block print from 2010. It features a striking depiction of a butterfly, its wings intricately detailed with a mix of chocolate brown, oriental gold, and burgundy tones. Set against a stark white background, the butterfly appears almost suspended in space, allowing the metallic sheen of the foil and the rich colors to create a dramatic contrast. Hirst's butterfly motifs often symbolize transformation, life, and death, echoing his broader themes of existence. The delicate yet vivid representation evokes a sense of both fragility and permanence.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
