Wat is kitsch?
Kitsch is een term die wordt gebruikt om goedkope, commerciële, sentimentele of vulgaire kunst en objecten te beschrijven die vaak worden geassocieerd met populaire cultuur. Het woord is ontleend aan het Duits, waar het oorspronkelijk rommel betekent. Sinds de jaren 1920 wordt kitsch gebruikt om het tegenovergestelde van hoge kunst aan te duiden, waarbij vaak wordt geïmpliceerd dat het werk weinig verfijning of artistieke waarde heeft.
