Image: 67.5 x 51cm; Sheet:100 x 70 cm // Sandro Chia’s Volti (Faces) is an expressive etching and aquatint print that delves into the themes of identity and duality. The artwork features two stylized faces overlapping, rendered in bold lines and vibrant colors. The left face appears more defined, with rich shades of purple and blue, while the right face is outlined in red, giving it a ghostly, transparent quality. Chia’s use of contrasting colors and layered profiles suggests a dialogue between inner and outer identities or the coexistence of different personas. This piece showcases Chia's unique style, combining elements of abstraction with figuration to evoke complex emotional states.

What is Transvanguardia ?
Transavanguardia is the Italian version of Neo-Expressionism, referring to an art movement that emerged in Italy and other parts of Western Europe during the 1970s and 1980s. The term translates to beyond the avant-garde. Transavanguardia arose as a reaction against the dominance of conceptual art, reintroducing emotion and reviving painting as a primary medium. The movement marked a return to mythic imagery and figurative art, celebrating a rediscovery of traditional forms and themes in a contemporary context.
