Rafael Barrios studied arts at Museo de Bellas Arts in Caracas and achieved his first recognition with the award "National Youth Painting in 1963."

He later joined Ontario College of Art in Canada, graduating with honors in communication, design, and pure art.
and afterwards he joined New York University to graduate for Fine Arts and Monumental Sculpture Techniques.
Rafael was given several awards; The Sculpture Award, Conferry Award, among others. Barrios has worked as Art Director for UNESCO as a creative consultant for Latin touch.

Rafael was a Professor of Three-Dimensional and Advertising at Neumann Design. The work of Rafael Barrios is like the fresh fruit of thoughts.  Barrios' works are identifiable by a set of dynamics, levity, strength, and magnetism, often represented in public sculptures on large scale.

The characteristics of Barrios works include shapes that altered geometric laws to enable volume suspension in space. His sculptures include features like orthodox directionality breaking, which opened new perception possibilities.   One of the popular quotes by Barrios is, "As long as we insist on proposing virtual reality as a representation of universal identity, we are making the same academic mistake made when affirming that painting is destined to fixate a moment of reality, without realizing that not even photography, which is considered as the nearest invention that allows us to catch instantaneity, escapes the temporal value between the fixation of the stimulus, and the time of its perception."
