Peter Doig Bather for Secession digital pigment print with standing male figure by blue water, moonlit sky, and painterly layered colors

Digital pigment print onto Somerset Radiant White Velvet 330gsm. Signed and numbered on the front. Bather for Secession by Peter Doig is a 2020 digital pigment print that revisits one of the artist’s recurring motifs: the solitary figure poised between land and water. A standing bather dominates the foreground, rendered in loosely layered color with visible painterly textures that soften the contours of the body. Behind him, a deep blue expanse of water stretches across the composition, punctuated by splashes and a smaller kneeling figure, while a crescent moon hovers in the dark sky above. The scene oscillates between stillness and unease, combining dreamlike atmosphere with subtle psychological tension. Measuring 128 × 97 cm and printed on Somerset Radiant White Velvet 330gsm paper, the work was produced in an edition of 123 and is signed and numbered on the front, reflecting Doig’s continued exploration of memory, isolation, and landscape.

What is conceptual art?

Sometimes referred to as Conceptualism, this is an art form where the idea(s) or concept(s) behind the work take precedence over material concerns and traditional aesthetics. Many conceptual artworks can be created by anyone simply by following written instructions. The concept or idea is the most essential aspect of the artwork.
