Untitled (Solo & Pillon saddle)

Olivier Mosset, Banana Saddle (Blue), mixed media sculpture, black saddle with central blue rectangle on textured background.

Metal, plastic, foam and leather - Edition of 6 pieces (3 Solo & Pillon saddles, in 3 different colors + 3 Banana saddles in 3 different colors) // Banana Saddle (Blue) by Olivier Mosset is a mixed media sculpture from 2019, blending industrial design elements with minimalist art. This piece, part of a limited edition of six, features a sleek, elongated saddle shape with a prominent blue rectangular patch at its center, set against a matte black background. Constructed with materials like metal, plastic, foam, and leather, the work merges functionality with a stark, modern aesthetic. Mosset’s focus on form and color, devoid of overt symbolism, aligns with his commitment to reducing art to its most essential elements. The Banana Saddle series captures an intersection between art and utility, challenging viewers to consider the boundaries between functional objects and sculptural forms.

What is site specific art?

Site-Specific Art is a form of artwork created to exist in a particular location, with the artist considering the site as an integral part of the creative process. Robert Irwin was a key figure in promoting this art form in California. Site-Specific Art emerged as a reaction against modernist objects, which were often portable, commodified, and confined to museum spaces. In contrast, Site-Specific Art is inherently tied to its location, challenging the traditional notions of art as a transportable and marketable commodity.
