Hand-painted acrylic on wood. Signed, dated, and numbered to the underside. Katherine Bernhardt’s Panther Panther Rosa Rosa (2020) is a whimsical sculptural work that brings her vibrant, graffiti-influenced style into three dimensions. Hand-painted in bold acrylic on wood, the piece depicts a stylized pink panther head outlined in electric blue, with expressive cartoonish features and a Nike swoosh for added pop culture reference. The playful rendering sits atop a grey-and-white striped wooden base, resembling a plinth with dripping paint—a nod to street art. With only 35 editions made, each signed and dated on the underside, the work exemplifies Bernhardt's blend of humor, consumer culture, and vibrant aesthetics.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
