// Islas Vírgenes by Jorge Macchi, created in 2023, is a lithograph depicting a stylized map of the Virgin Islands. The artwork features a blue-tinted background with black text and lines detailing the geographical layout of the islands and surrounding water bodies. The simplicity of the map, combined with the light blue and black color scheme, gives the piece a minimalist and almost poetic aesthetic. Macchi’s work often explores themes of space, fragmentation, and memory, and this piece reflects his interest in maps as representations of both real and imagined places. This limited edition print is signed and numbered by the artist.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
