// Drunk by Jorge Macchi is a limited edition lithograph from 2010, produced in an edition of 50. The artwork depicts a striking and surreal juxtaposition: a large matchstick, partially burned, balanced precariously on the rim of a wine glass filled with red liquid. The simplicity of the composition draws attention to the uneasy balance between the objects, evoking a sense of tension and vulnerability. The burned match and the wine suggest themes of indulgence, self-destruction, and the ephemeral nature of moments on the brink. Macchi’s work often explores fragile states and ambiguous scenarios, inviting viewers to reflect on the delicate interplay between stability and collapse.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
