- Signed by Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux, the Administrators of the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat - Published by Flatiron Editions. // Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Odours of Punt (1983-2024) is a screen print that exemplifies his signature fusion of abstract expressionism, neo-expressionism, and symbolic narrative. The artwork is filled with chaotic and energetic markings, featuring bright hues of deep blue, yellow, and white, layered over a background of handwritten notes, sketches, and diagrams. These elements evoke a sense of raw creativity and intellectual exploration. The repeated rocket-like forms and fragmented text suggest themes of discovery, ambition, or escape. Basquiat’s incorporation of both abstract and figurative elements creates a dynamic interplay between image and meaning, blending visual art with complex cultural commentary.

What is East Village Art?
In 1981, Patti Astor opened the first art gallery in New York City's East Village, helping to launch the careers of various artists and musicians. The gallery started small but quickly gained popularity, contributing to the emergence of art movements such as Neo-Expressionism and Street Art in the area. The East Village became a hub for these new artistic expressions. However, the gallery closed in 1985 due to waning interest.
