Etching with woodcut. Ace (2019) by Harland Miller is a bold fusion of text, geometry, and saturated color, executed in etching with woodcut. Dominated by a monumental letterform in electric blue, vivid red, and hot pink, the composition plays with typographic abstraction, its sharp edges softened by the textured impression of the printmaking process. The lower register, featuring Miller’s name and the word ace in contrasting typefaces, recalls vintage book covers while exuding contemporary pop energy. This edition of 50 exemplifies Miller’s skill in blending literary references, graphic design, and painterly sensibility into a striking visual statement.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
