Silkscreen with enamel inks and flocking on 2-ply museum board -Signed, dated and numbered by the artist in pencil // Donald Sultan's Lantern Flowers, May 10, 2012 (Coral) is a limited-edition silkscreen print that uses a bold coral hue against a deep black background to create a striking contrast. This piece, like others in Sultan's series, emphasizes the negative space around abstracted floral shapes, allowing the vibrant coral forms to appear almost silhouetted against the dark backdrop. Created with enamel inks and flocking on a 2-ply museum board, this work has a textured surface that enhances its visual depth. The minimalist composition and the intense color palette highlight Sultan's focus on reducing natural forms to their most essential shapes, merging simplicity with impact. Signed, dated, and numbered by the artist, this edition of 50, plus 10 artist proofs, exemplifies Sultan's unique approach to combining color, form, and texture.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
