Color silkscreen with flocking on 2-ply museum board // Button Flower Red, Sept 16, 2014 by Donald Sultan is a compelling silkscreen print that highlights Sultan’s distinct approach to floral abstraction. This limited edition work presents a large, bold black flower with a button-like center against a striking red background filled with flowing, organic lines. The high contrast between the intense black and vivid red creates a visually arresting composition, with the negative space around the flower allowing the intricate background details to come to life. Sultan uses flocking on museum-quality board, adding a textural depth to the flat image, inviting viewers to engage with the tactile quality of the work. Known for distilling complex forms into simplified shapes, Sultan’s print captures both elegance and strength, embodying a modern reinterpretation of botanical themes. This edition of 35 is hand-signed and dated by the artist.

What is pop-art?
Pop Art is an art movement that began in Britain in 1955 and in the late 1950s in the U.S. It challenged traditional fine arts by incorporating imagery from popular culture, such as news, advertising, and comic books. Pop Art often isolates and recontextualizes materials, combining them with unrelated elements. The movement is more about the attitudes and ideas that inspired it than the specific art itself. Pop Art is seen as a reaction against the dominant ideas of Abstract Expressionism, bringing everyday consumer culture into the realm of fine art.
