Water (H6-9) belongs to Hirst's Colour Space series — later grouped within The Elements — where each composition is named for a fundamental element and rendered in a palette that evokes its essence. Here, the oceanic spectrum of blues and greens summons the depth and mystery of water, from the palest turquoise at the centre to the darkest navy at the periphery, creating an almost meditative optical experience. The diasec mounting on aluminium composite panel gives the surface a luminous, reflective quality that intensifies the chromatic richness and lends the work the presence of a painting rather than a print.
