Victory Over Death is a monumental photogravure etching that directly references Hirst's landmark sculpture For the Love of God, the platinum cast of a skull encrusted with 8,601 diamonds that became the most expensive work of art by a living artist at the time of its creation. Where the sculpture speaks of wealth and spectacle, this hand-finished print variant introduces intimacy: the artist's own hand intervenes in each impression, applying colour to the mechanical intaglio process and transforming the serial into the singular. What is Uncanny?

The Uncanny is a concept described by psychologist Sigmund Freud as the eerie or unsettling feeling that arises when something familiar is presented in a strange or unfamiliar way. Surrealist artists, who aimed to reveal the subconscious and merge it with reality, often utilized this concept by combining familiar objects in unexpected and bizarre ways. This approach created a sense of discomfort or unease, challenging the viewer's perception of reality.
