Damien Hirst's Viagra Pink (S) sculpture in pink, shaped like a large pill with the Pfizer logo embossed on the surface.

Polyurthane resin multiple with ink pigment // Damien Hirst’s Viagra Pink (S) (2014) is a mixed media sculpture that humorously and provocatively comments on the intersection of art, consumerism, and pharmaceuticals. The piece, made from polyurethane resin with ink pigment, mimics the shape of a large, oversized pill with the Pfizer logo embossed on its surface. The pink color and reference to Viagra draw attention to themes of commodification, medicalization, and societal obsession with health and enhancement. By using an everyday pharmaceutical product as the subject matter, Hirst explores how modern culture places value on medicine and corporate branding, while simultaneously questioning the nature of objects as both functional and artful.

What is Shock Art?

Shock Art is an art movement that uses disturbing images, scents, or sounds to provoke a strong, often shocked, reaction from viewers. It is often regarded as a form of social commentary, with critics and supporters debating whether its impact is positive or negative. Shock Art frequently employs taboo, obscene, or outrageous elements to challenge societal norms and provoke critical thought.
