'Flood Light, from Art Pro-Choice II' by April Gornik is a relief print from 1991, hand-signed and hand-numbered in pencil below the image. Four tall, slender trees — likely poplars — rise vertically through the composition, their trunks wading in still, reflective water. Rounded shrubs float between them, mirrored in the pale yellow flood below. The entire scene is rendered in two tones: a warm cream ground and an olive-khaki ink that gives the foliage a quiet, pressured density. Gornik, known for her large-scale Romantic landscapes in oil and charcoal, brought the same atmospheric preoccupations to her printmaking. This work was produced for 'Art Pro-Choice II', a portfolio in which artists contributed prints in support of reproductive rights — a context that situates it at the intersection of Gornik's artistic practice and political commitment.
