De compositie toont een verweerde roeiboot, omringd door verspreide objecten zoals een gebroken roeispaan en een fragment met de inscriptie "Au Revoir." Barceló gebruikt expressieve texturen en dramatische licht- en schaduwcontrasten, geïnspireerd door traditionele technieken van perspectief en clair-obscur. Het ruwe, bijna tastbare oppervlak wekt een gevoel van beweging en verval op, en vangt de emoties van een reiziger die afscheid neemt en de hoop die schuilt in het achtergelaten bericht.
